Antique Wedding Rings

Antique wedding rings are great for couples who enjoy the traditions and designs of the past. You would be surprised to know that there is actually a renaissance in the popularity of past designs today.

What is antique?

An antique is something collectable which has aged to a certain point where it is recognized as being an antique. There is not universal age specification for antiques and it can really depend on what kind of collectable item we are discussing. When it comes to engagement rings or wedding rings then they are only considered to be antique when they are at least 50 years old. You might be thinking, that is going to be expensive and you would probably be right. An antique ring is obviously going to cost more than one which is the same but not an antique.

However you can also find antique replica wedding rings and estate ones. Estate rings are ones which are done in the antique style but which are not as old, they have some age, but they have not yet reached the 50 year mark that makes a ring an antique. Replica antiques are a great choice if you want an antique style ring but you can’t find an actually estate or antique one. The only thing that differs these wedding rings from antique wedding rings is their age.

What styles of Antique wedding bands are there?

There are many styles of these rings available today, especially if you look for a ring online. The three most popular types of antique wedding band styles that I know of are Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco.

Victorian

Victorian is a style of engagement rings and wedding rings which comes from the age of Queen Victoria. During that time Britain was at its height and its vast empire stretched around the globe. Victorian is a grandeur and luxurious style which is very traditional and conservative.

Edwardian

Similar to Victorian, Edwardian denotes the reign of Kind Edward in Britain. This was at a time when the British Empire was starting to wane, but luxury and grandeur had not changed. Rings from this period are slight more modern than their Victorian predecessors, but they still keep much of their traditional look.

Art Deco

Art deco represented a modern change from the traditional past and this is what these antique wedding rings have come to represent. Originating in Paris, this style would change the pre-world war 2 world. Although they may seem traditional today, they were a breakthrough in their time.
