Engagement rings for women can come in all different varieties, colors, shapes and sizes. If you are thinking about choosing an engagement ring for your future queen or if you are choosing one for yourself then you are in for a treat, because there is a great selection.
Introduction
Engagement rings were first used as symbols which brought the alliance of a family together. In ancient times, marriage was seen as a way of furthering an alliance; the ring would symbolize the coming together of two names. Nowadays the alliance part has been changed and love is by far the most important thing, however engagement rings still do hold their symbolic meaning.
1) The stone
The first decision you should make when choosing engagement rings for women is what kind of gemstone you are going to center the ring around. For a women’s ring, a gemstone is basically a madartory purchase and deciding on the right one is half the battle. The main choices that you have are diamond, sapphire, ruby, opal, cubic zirconia, moissanite and others.
Diamond
Diamond is by far the most popular engagement ring gemstone, it is also the most expensive. Diamonds can come in different colors and they have many different ways in which they can be fashioned. If you want to choose a diamond, but don’t have the money then maybe you should think about Cubic Zirconia or Moissanite. They look very much like diamonds, but man be man made and thus they cost a lot less.
Sapphire
A beautiful and no lesser a choice to diamond, sapphire comes in many different colors. It was a blue sapphire engagement ring which was given by Prince William to Kate Middleton for their engagement.
Ruby
The only different between ruby and sapphire is the color. Ruby is colored dark red or pink and if it is any other color it is considered sapphire, another good ring choice.
Opal
Opal engagement rings are not as popular as other types, but they are beautiful and natural opal is not expensive at all.
2) If you choose diamond then the cut is important
When choosing diamond engagement rings for women the cut is something which is important and must be factored in. There are many beautiful cuts to choose from and rather than go into them in detail here you can just check out the different articles I wrote on them:
3) Setting
Engagement ring settings will depend a lot on the stone you choose. What is right, not only depends on what you think is beautiful, but also what goes well with the stone and the band. I would recommend talking to a jeweler about this first. Some types of stones need more protection than others so it can be really hard to decide. Do you need a prong setting or a bezel setting, ask your jeweler first.
4) Band
Engagement rings for women are not just defined by their gemstone, a band can have a tremendous effect too, not just on the looks but on the price as well. For instance, if you choose a gold band you are going to be paying much more than if you choose a white gold or rose gold one.
