Are you looking for vintage inspired engagement rings, they can be a very suitable choice for couples who yearn for more traditional styles of engagement ring jewelry.
What does Vintage mean?
When it comes to jewelry, vintage means something which is from or designed like something from the past. Vintage usually has 3 main parts: 1) Antique- Antique engagement rings are rings which are over 50 years old and are designed in a past style (obviously). The three most common styles are Victorian, Edwardian and art deco. 2) Estate- Estate engagement rings refer to rings which have been designed with a vintage style, but which have yet to reach 50 years of age to make them antique. Such a ring should have some age however, usually 20 to 30 plus years. 3) Vintage Inspired- These are new rings which have just been made, but which are made in the vintage style. These are what I am going to be focusing on today.
What are the most common vintage inspired engagement ring designs?
I would say that vintage style engagement rings can be most commonly associated with Victorian, Edwardian and Art deco era styles. These three styles have come to represent the vintage age and they also represent three distinct phases of it.
Victorian
During the height of the British empire during the Victorian era traditional yet very luxurious and extravagant style was born which was to symbolize this age. In the beginning of this age there was a shortage of big diamonds and so smaller ones were more commonly worn. However, after south African mines began extracting big diamonds in huge numbers, the huge diamond engagement ring was born. What Victorian engagement rings did not have, was the intimacy of later styles.
Edwardian
If you are looking for a vintage inspired engagement ring to truly express the emotion of love, then Edwardian may be a good choice. Edwardian did not lose the extravagance of Victorian, but instead gained the emotion of love. This can be seen in many intricate patterns which Edwardian engagement rings showcase, for more information on the patterns check what I wrote on: Filigree engagement rings.
Art deco
Art deco vintage inspired engagement rings may be a good choice for people after something traditional, but less conservative. Art deco was a crazy that swept the World before the second world war and it’s main goal was modernity and liberal expression.
